Pregnancy is one of the processes in which women experience the most physical changes. This change experienced is not only visual in the body. While a brand new world is forming inside, these changes in the body are inevitable. Gestational diabetes is also a common ailment in this process.

      What is Gestational Diabetes?

This condition, also known as gestational diabetes, occurs with pregnancy in women. As the name suggests, this is diabetes. It does not matter whether the individual has pre-pregnancy diabetes or not. Even if you do not have pre-pregnancy diabetes, it can occur during pregnancy.

      So, What is Diabetes?

It is a disorder that occurs when the secretory glands in the body cannot produce enough insulin or the insulin produced cannot be used, and the sugar value in the blood cannot be adjusted correctly.

What are the Symptoms of Gestational Diabetes?

      Although these symptoms are not very common in most pregnancies, we can consider them in general terms as follows;

    ● Fatigue

    ● Going to the toilet too often

    ● Thirst felt above normal

    ● The presence of sugar in the urine (a symptom that can be reached as a result of certain tests)

    ● Weight loss

    ● Eating too much

      How Does It Appear?

    ● Usually 24-28 weeks of pregnancy. occurs during the week.

    ● It is found in approximately 2-4% of pregnant women.

    ● It is possible for women who had this condition in their previous pregnancies to recur in their next pregnancies.

This discomfort that occurs during pregnancy scares expectant mothers in terms of insulin therapy. Insulin therapy is the most reliable for the balance of sugar in the body for both the pregnant mother and the baby. This treatment is important to return blood sugars to normal levels and to prevent possible discomforts for both mother and baby before and after birth.

How should the nutrition process be?

While dealing with this disorder, it is necessary to pay attention to eating habits. Avoiding carbohydrates to lower sugar in the body while pregnant can have adverse effects on the baby. Therefore, foods that are low in sugar and high in carbohydrates should be consumed.

    ● Whole grain products (whole wheat rice)

    ● Pasta or bulgur (must be consumed in moderation)

    ● Fruit (it is important to consume with pulp) are examples of these.

It is also important for the expectant mother to apply the snack and main meal system regularly. The interval between the main and snack should be approximately 3 hours. In this process, it is important for the expectant mother to take a regular amount of carbohydrates every day. During pregnancy, the amount to be taken during the day can be determined and divided into meals in equal amounts. This system will be of great help in balancing your blood sugar.
